“Malhar” is a classical Indian raga — traditionally associated with the monsoon season, evoking depth, emotion, and cultural richness. The name itself reflects NCERT’s vision: a Hindi textbook that is rooted in Indian literary tradition while feeling fresh and alive for today’s students.

The new Malhar textbook replaces the previous textbooks Vasant, Durva, and Bharat Ki Khoj in schools following the updated NEP 2020 guidelines. Rather than spreading Hindi learning across three separate books, everything is now brought together in one thoughtfully designed volume.
